Director/Music Therapist-Board Certified

Sabra Chavez, MM, MT-BC

Sabra grew up in a small town in Arkansas and was always active in sport, theater, and music. She pursued a Musical Theater degree for two years at Oklahoma City University. During the summers, she worked as a Physical therapy Aide at a hospital for children with severe to profound physical disabilities. She found that she was able to engage her patients more effectively when she sang with them and made  the therapy session into "a game." She soon found that she could mesh her love of music, science, and individuals with special needs in Music Therapy.

Sabra received her bachelor's degree in music therapy from Colorado State University in 2007.  She completed her clinical internship at Neurologic Music Therapy Services of Arizona (NMTSA) in Phoenix, Arizona. Sabra worked at NMTSA from 2008 until 2012.  As a full-time therapist, she worked with individuals, groups, and school programs.  She served as NMTSA's Volunteer Coordinator (2009-2012) and Senior Clinical Development Specialist (2012).  Sabra has presented about Music Therapy and developmental disabilities, brain injury, music in education, and positive behavior support to families, support teams, school administrators, and community organizations.

Sabra received the advanced level training in Neurologic Music Therapy through the Center for Biomedical Research in Music in 2008, and her Fellowship in 2012.

Sabra worked with Kris' Camp from 2007-2014. Kris' Camp is a intensive therapy program for children and adults with Autism.  This unique approach through a multidisciplinary team of music therapists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, vision therapists, and special educators has planted the dream to someday create a truly allied multidisciplinary team approach with and for individuals with disabilities and their families.

In 2013, Sabra returned to Fort Collins to pursue a Master's degree at CSU and teach as the Graduate Teaching Assistant. She graduated in 2015 with her Master's and continues to teach at CSU in an adjunct capacity.

Sabra lives in Fort Collins with her husband and four children. She enjoys being outdoors and working in her garden, coffee with friends, cooking, and all things knitting.
